India of My Dreams-Rural Employment

India’s GDP is growing at close to 9% and is expected to reach 10%.
India overtook Japan this year in the number of billionaires, with 36 billionaires worth a total $191 billion while Japan's 24 billionaires were worth $64 billion. This is good news!!

But please also note that majority of our population lives at less than Rs. 20 per day, mostly in rural India. Benefits of growth and prosperity are not reaching rural India.

Majority of our rural population is dependent on agriculture for its livelihood, however share of agriculture in India’s GDP has declined from 59% in 1950-51 to 20% in 2005-2006. Agriculture can no longer provide sustainable livelihood for our rural population.

We need to provide non-agricultural jobs in rural areas.

Local skills based self employment in cottage industries should be encouraged through PPP using Microfinance. With high economic growth and proliferation of service industries (Telecom, Retail, Finance, Security and other support services), our cities are starved of trained man-power in skilled and semi-skilled categories, while our rural youth is unemployed and frustrated. We need to fill this demad-supply gap.

Vocational training to educated and semi-educated rural youth in collaboration with industry with reasonable assurance of job opportunity will bridge this gap.

We have embarked upon one such initiative in Rajasthan under Rajasthan Mission on Livelihood using PPP involving local industries. This initiative has shown a good promise and needs to be replicated.

Institutional Micro credit to marginal farmers in rural areas needs urgent attention.

Farmer suicides have been linked to repeated failure of crops coupled with burden of high interest loan from local lenders. Micro finance schemes have shown great promise and need to be encouraged.

Agricultural productivity should be improved and more land should be brought under cultivation by implementing sustainable irrigation projects urgently.

Farmer must get fair price for his produce through Input Cost based Procurement Price (ICPP) in place of current MSP.

Easy credit facilities and crop insurance schemes should be effectively administered.

Honest & efficient implementation of various rural welfare & employment generation schemes such as Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), National Rural Employment Generation Program (NREGP). 74th amendment should be implemented in its true spirit.

Please read and give your comments..Rural India is in need of urgent attention..

  2. very thankfull to you for nation thinking. we are operating the leg when the problem is in hand. we should focus our energy on real problem, the real problem is population. before doing anything we should check the grouth of population and should make very strict act against it. after one or two child no bodody should allow to give birth any more. avoiding the law there should terminate his citizenship and should withdraw his all facility like service, driving licence, rasancard facility, passport and also the right of vote. when we control our population all thing will go smooth. all our politician and burocrates focus on short time plan and want soon result. this may be a long term plan but may be very fruitful in long term. politician want only vote at any condition. some particular comunity are doing this work to increase population and are destroying our nation plan and all system. so, please come on the main root of problem, do not go shortcut and do not go to happy any cast and community. when china can do, how we can not do it.
the govt. should give a special previledge to the farmer and soon should withdraw the reservation policy let them come in open cometion. when any cast ans section of community is weeker govt. should give them help in shape of money house free education, and also in other schem. to give the help any person means to make in handicape.

  3. It was an impressive show on the Republic Day's episode on StarOne!

People have been talking about Urban-Rural divide But very little has been done at the ground level. One could start a campaign to register all the rural people with their skill sets and make it available to Urban population (companies etc.)

Please keep up the good work and there wont be any dearth of support!

  4. Dear Vijay,

The same population has become bane to boon now. We are a young nation and on our way to becoming a strong economic power.

I personally feel that what we are doing with our population is the real problem rather than the population itself in the absolute sense.
if we could take up the work of making our people more educated and skillful then we have done our job.

  7. Im very much convinced with u, and needs people like you to take the initiative of building the rural india and serve them by showing them the right job to be taken for their economic upliftment, on the other hand iam not slightly agree with u on agriculture being no more backbone for the rural community as for me and my personal analysis agriculture is still the most dominant occupation by which rural people support themselves for their livelyhood and its only the backbone for them, so our intrest should be focussed on mainly agriculture and how it could be benefited by using modern technology thereby making it as their permanent source of income as any other employment in the country. wish u all the best never loose even if u dont make it to lead India also. i think its just the begening.

  8. Why this economic growth is not reaching to common man or poor. But on the other side Millionaries are becoming Billionaries. Its only owing to the Corrupt Triangle of politician, babudom and bussinessmen. This triangle is main hurdle for the well-being of the society. If You,Sir be able to smash this triangle, prosperty will automatically flourish among rural and common people otherwise we will have to listen to the BABAS in the morning on various chennels of T.V.Please go deep into financial and social corruption created by this triangle, every thing will become crystal clear and you will able achieve the noble goals.

  17. THE HISTORY OF UAS

Did you ever have to go for art classes, just because your mother wanted you to, and because the teacher lived right around the corner?

Did you attend music classes because your mother wanted you to learn? Only to discover years later that it is theatre that truly inspires you?

Someone else in our team never got a chance to learn anything at all, because his parents thought it was a waste of time. Now he is trying his best to make up for the lost years in his childhood…

    OUR CAUSE

One day one of us cracked and decided that he wanted to spread Art. At the time it was just a random idea, but we have come a long way since then – from a nascent thought to an actual registered NGO. Our purpose is to make all kinds of art available to everyone, so that you can choose to follow what you really love, because it inspires you, not because it’s around the corner.

We expose you to 150 different art forms, and at the end of the day, you make your choice about what you really want to learn. We are also aware of the special needs of special age groups (the children and the elderly), and have come up with workshops and teaching techniques that identify their needs. Read on to find out more.

  19. Hello!
I agree that a lot has to be done for rural India, but simply making plans, either by Govt. part or by privet sector, can't work unless there is effective execution of these plans in favor of local population with the proper participation of public. Reason is there is too much corruption, acute lack of law and order, illiteracy and so many inter-related problems.
In my view if law and order is enforced properly and people are made educated enough to understand their responsibilities (NOT SIMPLY THEIR RIGHTS), every body can discover his or her way of joyful survival.

Privatise as many goverment functionary as possible, so things work smooth, with NO Bribes.

Have cameras fit in every goverment office and police station.Traffice rules have to made stringent.

  31. Mr. Misra,

This is pinching & horrifying that the benefit of our growth reaches only a few "Big Baloon Rich Families" in India. The last man who lives in the villages is not even aware that we are growing too fast, too good.

Even in Urban India the Rich & Poor divide is prevalent. Although we oversee much of it. As like if you go to MG Road in Bangalore, WHO will accept that there is a small village where the average Indian lives [who has no capacity to reach big malls] near the St. Joseph's College on lower end of Brigade road within 1 Kilometer distance.

I was reading Sudha Murty's words at my company the other day ::
“In India, people are usually enthusiastic about building temples, mosques & gurudwaras but no one thinks it is important to build something as essential as a toilet.”

I believe she has no intention to be communal or against temples, mosques or gurudwaras, but building the very infrastructure necessary for a normal life. It is a necessity as much for a RICH guy as is for the POOR.

I have seen you speaking. You have conviction. I don't believe it should only be about winning the LEAD INDIA for you. I feel more Misra's & Nanavati's get up & build a better India.

Sending you best of my prayers.

  32. I truly agree with you, Misraji.

One of the channels to route money/revenue to the rural population is by leveraging on the existing skill-base of the rural population.

For example, I am currently focusing on building a design base of craft products of India which have a high degree of marketability to the SEC A population in India an also in the international market.

  35. Hello Sir...Your work is appreciated by so many people. The primary concern is the person who grows crop should be educated. From the past, what people thought is agriculture means no education is required. Thats why today people in rural area are facing so many problems because they have been cheated my so many corrupted people. Today Father who grows crop does not want his son or daughter to become an agriculturist. Why? Because of money. Today most of the people who are working in MNCs, ITs are from village whose parents were in agriculture. In Bangalore everything is rich, high economic growth has made Bangalore to be recognized in the entire world. But how much this economic growth is benefiting rural India. Out of 100% rural Indial is 99%. Only 1% are benefitted from this growth. How we can call it as an economic growth when poor is still remains as poor who even dont have the basic needs food and shelter. Youth should come forward to give some solution and to reduce the poverty in rural areas. Youth who are really capable of changing should be into Politics so that they can help rural India.

Your work is really good, but try retain agriculturist as agricultrists itself. Otherwise one day we should even import rice and wheat from other countries. We will be fighting for food and shelter.

  36. Dear RK,

I am strong supporter of yours. I am sure you can make it to lead India. Let me also highlight that somewhere we need to address the root of coruption in INDIA. The Democratic system itself is majorly based on coruption. No political party can function without it. There is no proper democracy in this parties itself. I hope I am not diverting the issue, but thats what I realies after discussion with world bank autorities and how china has done well by spending all its funds.

  37. "We need to provide non-agricultural jobs in rural areas" - I dont understand why should we do this. Instead I strongly feel that we have to work towards a revolution (2nd Green revolution) in the farming sector. Congratulations on a fantastic "lead India" campaign.
i was glancing through the times today and i could not help but notice an article on you that quoted you as saying that you plan to be prime minister one day, being a public figure who through this campaign plan to instill confidence in us i would have expected you to have had a conctrete game plan on how you plan to achieve this marvellous feat and lead us to prosperity and development, however i was dissapointed to see that you really had no idea on how this was achievable except saying that you would like to be an "opinion maker" first, by making such statments with out a clue on how to achieve it you appear to be like the same politicians who currently rule us, would it be possible for you to back your statment and draw out a game plan for your march to no7 race course road

    Eagerly waiting your reply

  40. u have correctly identified rural employment as the single biggest challenge in front of us. PPP partnerships can be fruitful but, the real problem is skill-imparting education in rural areas. Unless we start a new cycle of quality education which is not for numbers, but for enabling people to find their feet in the globalizing world, the divide between urban n rural India will worsen. Instead of making schemes with long names n little work, govt. should focus on upgrading rural lives in a holistic way. As u r a realistic leader, I request you to recognize the severe fact that no scheme will be able to energize the country as long as the delvery mechanism is not sharpened and projects are executed with vision, passion n swiftness.

  46. First of all congratulations sir.I say this with lot of pride, emotions, filled with lot of sentiments and finally straight form my heart and gut. I feel proud not only beacause iam from Bangalore too, but because i feel we have selected the right man to lead us in future not only to improve the infrastructure of our own city which is in a very pathetic situation today (Iam from a middle class so you how much it hurts when we pay so much of tax and dont get the returns in terms of the commonman's basic infrastructure)but also your inspiring rolemodel dairy facility that you are going to start at your native place, Sonari,UP.Many of us infact all of us are going to watch this very keenly as you say you want to make this as an rolemodel project first. So, i wish you all the best in all your future endeavours and i tell we are with you so please surge ahead. We, are looking forward you to lead us through in future.
I(WE)want to join your mission as well.
But here iam not sure wheather i can address my own problems.Am sorry if iam not supposed.Iam right now an unemployed youth.I have an qualification of Master's of Technology in Mechanical Engineering.I say this after being hurted and being victimized by one of the most prestigious IT company called IBM India Pvt Ltd, Bangalore. They got me recruited in july 2006 through campus. But since then they been postponing the joining or the onboarding date for me and give their own reasons. The latest date is July 2008. So what is the guarantee now that they will aloow me to join in July?I have debts and loans which i had taken from banks for studies.I have to clear them orelse iam not sure when are they going to attack our house which has been mortaged.Iam the lone son of my parents. sisters married but need to pay back the people who have helped for the marriage. Need to take care of my aged parents.Iam very much disturbed and frustrated by these developments offlate. Beacuse i very much relied on them to get myself employed as it is one of the esteemed organization and i had always dreamnt of working at such an company.Never even imagined that they would behave in such an harsh way.Imagine a guy in the society having done Master's ,but without any job, its like being on the road getting all the nasty n hurting things said by the society.Iam struggling to find a job outside now its very tough. So, iam getting stressed out and loosing my health day by day.
So, i would like to ask Mr. R.K Mishra & my friends that can anything be done on this..? Iam not very specific to my own problem here. But all i want to say is how can the companys play with a persons career. They behave in an very unprofessional and non-ethical manner? Is this the way to go about it or behave ?Dont they have the social responsibility? Finally we all talk about IT industry today the great job they are doing here especially in bangalore providing job of employment oppurtunities. But these thigs goes unnoticed or no one finally even speak or do anything about it. SO, i was very much inspired and moved by your words in the final u said "we need to ask questions at first place which we dont do many times ". So, iam very clearly asking you and all of my friends, brothers n sisters can anything be done for this problem today. Its basically cheating i beleive because they offer you and start playing with the date of joining. Its a meantal torture for me as well as many.Because its not only me who is suffereing with this problem today there are many in fornt of my own eyes.
So, finally iam not sure iam right in asking this here again i say. But i felt i should as iam deeply tortured. And also felt after watching the entire program of lead india and Mr.R.K Mishra coming out as an absolute winner whom we all supported for surely, he can do something for me as well as others who are undergoing this problem.
So, iam very sincerely, humbly and honestly requesting you sir. Pls can i get your emailid or the contact no..?We are all with you to solve these kind of problems. Pls do help us or support us in this fight. I hope and believe we can take up or address and fight this problem only through you because you have got the respect and the identity now.
In general the compnay has been very tough and nasty while making such decisions.Hoping for an positive reply.

Sincere Thanks, Raghu , Bangalore: raghukm31@gmail.com,9740288144.

  47. Hello Sir...First of all Congratulation to win the Lead India. I belongs to small village of Bihar and I have seen there lots of problem facing. Your work is appreciated by so many people. The primary concern is the person who grows crop should be educated I think so. From the past, what people thought is agriculture means no education is required. That’s why today people in rural area are facing so many problems because they have been cheated by some of our rich people who give them money on high interest to invest in their agriculture. Today Father who grows crop does not want his son or daughter to become an agriculturist as example for me, my grandfather do it for long time and my father get a job in Indian railway and now I m working with software industry in Delhi and now my father never thought I will be back some time after, to give some betterment for my society. Why? Because of money no not at all only what they think my future generation will not get any better education there. In my village there are 5 doctors’ 10-15 engineers working in different location of India and they are earning lots of money to give their life an easy livelihood and 40-45 are working with government organization. But nobody wants to do anything to our society or its betterment and I know this as well that nobody will be back, because of lack of livelihood facilities there. But I think that I have some responsibilities towards my society where I belong from. Today most of the people who are working in MNCs, ITs are from village whose parents were in agriculture.
In Bharri (my village), katihar, bihar everything is not good, not high economic growth but my village has a strong education background has made it recognized in it's society. But how much this economic growth is benefiting my people who r living under Below Poverty Line (BPL). I think in my village only 10% are benefited from this growth. How we can call it as an economic growth when poor is still remains as poor who even don’t have the basic needs food and shelter. Youth should come forward to give some solution and to reduce the poverty in rural areas. Youth who are really capable of changing should be into Politics so that they can help rural India. Your work is really good, but tries retaining agriculturist as agriculturists itself. Otherwise one day we should even import rice and wheat from other countries. We will be fighting for food and shelter. I have something plan in my mind for my village like
    1) Educate the society
    2) Educate the agriculturist to adapt some non-conventional crops
    3) Educate the people to fight against corruption
    4) Educate the people about the importance of Education
    5) Know their rights/works/responsibility towards the society
    6) Use of RTI act etc...

And last word I believe that whatever you have said in Lead India Final “Start with small, Do it Quick, Show the result and Move on….”

    Thanks & warm Regards

Many congratulations on you winning the LEAD INDIA initiative.
I feel there are lot to be done going ahead in cleansing up the system. Now that we have a leader of truts and integrity in people like you, we can look forward for the same. Can i request you to setup a forum/platform wherein all like minded people can inetract with you?
I am interested in politics and feel like giving suggestions, however i dont see any platform to do the same. We need to severely scruitinise the working of political parties and the government. One thing i can think of immediately is approaching the election comission on banning th political parties on making promises of freebies to elctorate like free power, free colour television etc. For ex, the free color tv distribution promise by Karunanidhi was insane and does not help in the progress of nation. Promises like these easily woo the uneducated masses. Please reply back. Would like to see something being done to stop these.

  54. Regarding this urban-rural divide i have a very specifically designed project, which could be replicated across the country with marginal modifications. This envisages a joint venture between voluntary sector, Government and Corporates in order to make it sustainable. I had already sent a separate mail to you seeking your appointment for presenting it in front of you.

Apart from this, my suggestion to improve life standards in the peasant's house is to empower them on post harvest handling and to stretch to that point, enable them with very specifically designed financial programme. He should be able to cultivate scientifically with quality inputs and then handle the marketing of their product through analysing and fixing their prodn cost and grading and pitch their prod according to the grades. This will insulate them financially to greater extent. I visualise government's role as a facilitator in providing environment and forcing/ sponsoring crop insurance and such social benefits instead of plain subsidies.....!!!

  55. Hello Sir,

Congrates on your winning. To seek a help from you, I am presenting my case you. To summerize, I was selected for the Engineer (Technical) post by one the Indian Govt. firm from Bangalore in January last year and I got the probationary offer letter. I underwent medical checkup to Nasik division and then waiting for further communication about the progress in the matter. Then after 4 months, I got the police inquiry at my home town and they said they will send the report directly to concerned department. I waited again for long time and kept trying to call respective department in the organization to discuss, but could not get the proper information. When I visited them again last week, manager told me that they haven't received any documents or reports from any one and don't have any information about that. They are not willing to take any responsibility in this matter now and hence I lended in this trouble. I am handsome earner in IT field right now and the reason I am looking for the job in that Govt. organization despite much lower salary is because I want to do something for my country, but it was really sad to know about the un-professional approach of the beurocrats and red-tapism of the HR of that department.

As name of the organization can NOT be revealed in public, I would like to send e-mail to your personal ID. Can you please provide the same so that I can seek your expert guidance to resolve my trouble? Please provide your personal ID and contact information.

Looking forward to your support in this matter.

    Thanks.

  60. Hi,

Congratulations!! Greetings for posting your valued opinions on this blog. Being a communication student and interested in developing my country, I would like to put forward an important opportunity for all interested readers on this platform. This is your chance to become part of change that you want to see.

I’m Tanmay Shanishchara, student of PGPCME, MICA-EDC. I am glad to introduce you ‘ThinkYuva’, a student initiative from Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) - EDC. The initiative is to bring about a mental leap in the people of the country with the belief that such leap would bring about an all-round development of the country. For this purpose, ThinkYuva would be organizing various events and road shows. For this event, invitations would be called from students from colleges across the country mentioning one important problem in their vicinity and the solution to it. The themes chosen for this year are civic sense, children related issues and environmental issues.

The final event is planned for the 18th of August. We look forward to an active involvement from your side. We believe that this initiative and your support would be great for the development of our nation.

To express your precious views and for further details visit: http://www.thinkyuva.com

    Thanks and Regards,
    Tanmay Shanishchara

  61. Better Rural employement will necessorily include two pronged strategies: the first related to the farm labour which is as much essential as any high class metropolitan mumbo-jumbo. the second would be slightly higher skill level involving better understanding of financial and credit market and direct marketing of rural products to the prospective customers eliminating a large chain of middle men each cutting their slices from the cake and thus depriving both the rural producer as well as final customer at the very end of the cycle.
